European aeroplane manufacturer Airbus has signed what has been described as a “multi-year deal” with air traffic management data firm Aireon to expand its access to the firm’s automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data.

The deal will expand the use of Aireon data in Airbus’ advanced flight analytics products and digital solutions it offers to airlines.

Aireon said this would “support… them in operating Airbus products more efficiently and sustainably.”

The new contract builds on an existing relationship, first formalised in 2018, and the data firm said it “confirms Airbus’ commitment to its customers to provide advanced real-time solutions to boost their operations and business.”

“The power of, not only of Aireon’s real-time data, but also the historical information powers valuable analytic and situational awareness tools for Airbus. We look forward to the next phase of this outstanding partnership,” said Peter Cabooter, Aireon’s vice president of customer affairs.

Aireon works with airports and air traffic management agencies around the world, providing data from its space-based ADS-B. “By putting this on a network of satellites, we’re able to provide 100% full global coverage, with a dataset,” Aireon CEO Don Thorma told Airport Technology in a 2021 interview.
