The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has entered into agreement with Afroport Mauritanie to improve ground operation safety in Mauritania.
It was signed by IATA Africa and the Middle East regional vice-president Kamil Alawadhi and Afroport Mauritanie’s parent company Terminals Holding CEO Ahmed Al Hadabi.

The agreement emphasises on two global standards including the IATA Ground Operations Manual (IGOM) and the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO).
Under the terms of the agreement, Afroport Mauritanie will support the implementation of IGOM by ground handling service providers (GHSP).
The company, which manages airports and ground handling services, will recognise ISAGO as a standard of compliance for airport oversight activities.

The ISAGO registration and station accreditation will also be required for GHSPs to operate at the Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport.

The agreement will strengthen IATA’s effort to improve air transport sector in Africa.
Last month, IATA entered a cooperation agreement with the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia to bolster the country’s aviation industry.
