Two of the most notable projects undertaken by Emirates during the research period were related to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

In one the company operated its first demonstration flight by powering a Boeing 777-300ER engine with SAF.

The flight took off from Dubai International Airport (DXB) and flew for more than an hour over the Dubai coastline and is claimed to be the first in the Middle East and North Africa region to be powered by 100% SAF.

The company also completed ground engine testing for one of its GE90 engines on a Boeing 777-300ER with SAF. The trial was carried out to evaluate the engine’s capability to run on the specially blended fuel without any changes to aircraft systems, and to ensure that the performance of the engine is not impacted.

Elsewhere the company reached a biometric data agreement with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) related to international visitor processing at Dubai International Airport (DXB).

The agreement sees Biometric recognition technologies and GDRFA pre-populated biometric database used to identify passengers at various points in the airport to provide a faster experience for passengers transferring to connecting flights and those who arrive in Dubai.

Emirates also announced codeshare partnerships with AEGEAN and Air Canada.
