One of AECOM‘s most notable projects during the research period was its contract from the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) to develop a long-term environmental master plan for Toronto Pearson International Airport in Ontario, Canada.

The master plan will be aligned with GTAA’s environmental policy, which focuses on the six key areas of climate change, carbon neutrality and emissions, water management, natural environment, strategic energy use, and waste management.

According to the agreement, AECOM will develop strategic plans for each focus area and recommend capital projects as well as operational changes to meet environmental goals.

The scope of work will include analysis of current strategies; baseline assessments for the focus areas; supervision of peer review; and identification of priority areas and related goals.

The company will also conduct a cost/benefit analysis for programmes and targets.

The plan is part of the GTAA’s wider goals for the airport which include improving lighting systems, clean heat energy services at its central utility facility and the installation of solar photovoltaic and electric vehicle charging.
